New Jersey Online Gambling Gets A Virgin

Online gambling in New Jersey may be off to a slow start but Richard Branson’s Virgin Group is definitely optimistic about the future of the industry. The Virgin Group has partnered with Gamesys to launch Virgin Casino, a legal online gambling site for New Jersey residents. Lee Fenton, COO of Gamesys seemed confident that people were going to be attracted to Virgin’s new site despite a sluggish start to legal online gambling in the Garden State. Fenton said there were many games that have proved their worth on the casino floor. However, there is plenty of unique content including slots and jackpots that are not found at land based casinos.

Virgin Casino is set to start with a bang. The online casino plans to dish out loads of cash and offers customers the chance to win $10,000 jackpot on any bet, at any time. An additional $10,000 will be split amongst other users currently logged into the site. The COO warned that the jackpot value is likely to get much higher in the near future. According to Fenton, the company is not worried about issues such as data leaks because of its state of the art technology. It enables them to analyze multiple databases for player verification, which includes age and whether they are physically located in New Jersey at the time of placing a wager.

Virgin Casino is one of 15 casinos approved by New Jersey gambling regulators last fall. However, Virgin chose to delay the launch due to issues faced in the initial stages by online sites. Payment issues, software glitches, login problems and geo-location issues needed to be worked out. The company plans to set up its online gambling headquarters from the Garden State. Virgin’s partner, Gamesys, also operates Tropicana’s online casino site. It was recently named UK’s number 1 fastest-growing private technology company in the Sunday Times 2006 Tech Track 100. Gamesys also has strategic partnerships with Caesars, New Corp and many more.

Under its partnership with Virgin, Gamesys will develop real money and social gambling products and has already released a free-to-play Virgin Poker game on Facebook. The application currently has over 10,000 visitors. Global Director of Brands for Gamesys, Paul Troy, said that the Virgin brand gives his company the opportunity to leverage on a global level and expand in the US market. Troy sees Virgin as a brand that can help Gamesys boost its image in the entertainment business.
